Expectations from staff (involvement in handling student behaviour issues.)

  1. Attendance to be taken daily in the first period by the class teacher and every period by respective subject teachers.
  2. Head of sections to be informed of any missing student. Monitore to take up this responsibility as well.
  3. Parents to be contacted for any absent student- even if only for a day. Insist on leave notes.
  4. Lonf absentees to be reported to Heads of sections without undue delay. Regular periodic reminders and surprise checks of bags and nails etc.
  5. Regular reminders of basic school rules on behaviour , uniform , punctuality , leave notes etc.
  6. Regular contact with parents on academic / behaviour problems.
  7. Be informed of medical problems of students. Inform head of sections , other members , and clinic staff.
  8. Reinforce good behaviour with a note of appreciation.
  9. Reward students for community / extra - curricular activites.
  10. Assign mentors for academically weak students who display unacceptable behaviour .
  11. Pace syllabus comfortably , assign home work , class work thoughtfully with adequate time for submission.
  12. No student to be sent / or made to stand outside the classroom as punishment.
  13. No personal , derogatory remarks to be made to students , no matter what the situation.
  14. Always deal firmly but justly and kindly with every child .
  15. Poor maintenance of uniform and personal grooming flaws may be discussed personally and privately with students and parents.
  16. Non payment of fees to be discussed personally and privately with parents. Students must never be humiliated , no matter what.
  17. Set examples of high standards of discipline , academic work , behaviour , speech for students to follow.
  18. Do not accept sloppy behaviour, unacceptable speech, mannerisms. Guide student towards right social norms. Challenge them to higher standards, in everything, help develop their interpersonal skills.
  19. Student behaviour is the corporate responsibility of the entire school staff. teachers are expected to ensure that students irrespective of whether they teach them or not, are well behaved in school, in the buses or outside school when on field trips or school outings.
  20. Be extra vigilant about new students and new staff members. help them settle in comfortably.
  21. Create a culture of responsibility, compassion, team work, nurturing, caring and support within the classroom so that is reflected in the school community and beyond the school.
  22. Provide the purpose for every classroom activity undertaken
  23. Know your students beyond the classroom, understand their aspirations, goals, limitations, talents and family background
  24. Give each student some responsibility that will boost their self-esteem and dignity. recognize their abilities while assigning their portfolios.
  25. Get to know the parents of your students. involve them within the school structure for presentations, demonstrations, field trips etc.

DISCIPLINARY LEVELS

Decision on the disciplinary action that will follow poor behaviour should be rational. Severe levels (5-6) shall be applied depending on the seriousness of the offence. For example, if a student is absent without information for a day for the first time, you will apply level 1 and encourage the student to get a signed letter by parent. on the other hand, if a student injures another willfully, you may like to apply 4,5or 6.

  2. NOTE IN STUDENT’S DIARY BY THE CLASS TEACHER AND COUNTERSIGNED BY THE PARENTS.
  3. PARENTS/ TEACHERS/COUNSELOR / STUDENT MEETING COORDINATOR. PARENT AND STUDENT APPRAISED OF CONSEQUENCES
  4. REPORT TO THE PRINCIPAL FOR ACTION. SUSPENSION FOR A DAY
  5. SUSPENSION FOR THREE DAYS OR MORE AS PER SITUATION OR LEVEL OF MISTAKE
  6. EXPULSION.
